Getting to Know Your Boat

These private lessons are designed specifically for the new sailboat owner who needs a little help getting acquainted with the new boat. The lessons are taught on your boat in 3 hr. Sessions. We divide the lessons into 3 areas of concentration (on board, on the water, and docking)

1. On board

We begin by examining the standing rigging (stays and shrouds) and adjust as needed. Next, we check all running rigging (halyards and sheets) for correct sizing and wear. Lastly, we will examine the sails and roller furling gear.

2. On the water

All on the water time will be fully hands-on for the captain and crew. Instruction will include nomenclature, rules of the road, points of sail, and sail trim.

3. Docking

We will practice a few docking maneuvers to determine the best options for various current and wind conditions. We will offer several recommendations to help improve your docking skills regarding crew positioning and equipment, and equipment needed.
